31st May 2008 marks an important day for retailers like adidas, polar, velocity, subway + runners like me!
It's Singapore First Ever Night Marathon!I had managed to regulate some co-worker from 40th Bn SAR to join me for the run. They are
Dian Yang,
Gordon,
Zi Jian,
Alex &
Sing Nan. To cut short, we signed up in early Jan and that's meant we should have ample time to train up but we didn't.
It's really busy in camp life for the past few months even though we have time, either the weather go against us or we just simply too
lazy.I head start the day by going down to Cityhall; to meet
Dian Yang &
Sing Nan. We took a stroll (
15minutes) at cityhall before we met up with
Zi Jian at
White Sand. From there, we took a shuttle bus to the starting point (Changi Village). The shuttle bus so expensive -
$2.50 per ride! Wat to do? I hope if I drive then everything will within my control! Aiming towards a car license and my dream car!
Over the bag deposit area, we met up with
Gordon. Soon, we start off with chatting, analysising the route, doing warm up at
11:00pm.
I saw
CPT Ng, previously from Archer Coy. He was there for the race as well! I asked why he didn't call along
CPT Dung &
Lim. His replied: "
Been asking them for 2 marathons but they rejected". Did a bit of chatting with him before I joined by my running khakis for warm up!
Soon, the race flagged off! Initially I was running with
Dian Yang but soon we break off ~ he's running fast that I can't get hold of him! Eventually I ran alone and then slowly over take one by one!
The running route: Changi Village -> Air way -> ECP -> Silpag connector -> Bedok Rvr -> White Sand -> Finishing
Personally I find that this race is the most mentally as we need to cross a total of
4 big long bridge and some bridge there are steps! It's really a big challenge for me ~ surprise I performance a bit beyond my expectation and usual - throughout the whole day I didn't stop until I hit
30km; run and walk method.
But for the first
20km i managed to do
below 2 hours!
I preserve and press on; finally I completed the race in
4 hours 46 minutes. The best marathon timing I ever had!
